Employment Insurance rolls increased in June

The number of Canadians collecting regular Employment Insurance benefits jumped 5.1 per cent in June, according to Statistics Canada.
About 816,000 Canadians collected EI benefits in June, up 39,500 from the previous month.

The benchmark S&P/TSX composite index was down more than 190 points in early afternoon trading Tuesday.
Every sub-index had fallen, with the biggest drops in gold, mining, materials and energy.
